How Does Electrolysis work?

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a process in which a tiny, hair-sized probe is gently inserted into the hair follicle & treated with a small amount of electrical current, using a special machine called an Epilator. Once treated, the hair will  easily slide out of the follicle with a tweezer.

 

The electrical current flowing thru the probe, will reach the full depth of the hair follicle, resulting in the  destruction of the hair root.

No future hairs will grow back within this follicle.

Hair Growth

There are 3 modalities used in Electrolysis, each serving purpose in different cases.  Through Grace's experience & training at the Eau Claire Institute of Electrology, she has been taught how to skillfully & thoughtfully choose a modality for the individual client's needs.

Galvanic Current 

Galvanic current is the destruction of the hair follicle by chemical action. The direct current of galvanic electrolysis combined with moisture & salt in the deeper layers of the skin, produces tiny amounts of lye within the follice, which destroys the hair root & prevents another hair from growing in it’s place.

Galvanic current is much less frequently used in modern electrolysis, due to the pain levels & time it takes to treat each follicle.

Thermolysis

Fast-acting, high-frequency current is applied within the follicle, destroying the hair root by a heating action, through a series of flash pulses.

​

This modality is used more frequently in modern electrolysis, because it works much faster than galvanic current & is typically less painful.

​

Results are seen much more rapidly, as more hairs can be treated in a shorter amount of time.

The Blend

The Blend is a modality in which both the galvanic current & the high frequency thermolysis are combined.

 

The galvanic current first produces the lye in the hair follicle & then the high frequency current  heats up the lye & disperses it further to destroy the hair root.

​

The blend is used if thermolysis is ineffective for the client, or if the client has very curved follicles, where the probe may have a hard time reaching fully down to the hair bulb.
